BJ: Evaluation of Brighton Recce

Advantages

  • The recce allowed us to practice specific shots that we were planning on using in our final piece, therefore gaining an understanding of how these shots may look in our final piece. The trip also allowed to find new shots that we could use. However, the main advantage is that we got some practice shots, for example the slow-mo shot between the cars.
  • The trip also allowed us to evaluate different locations that may be suitable for our final piece. This included finding certain alleyways with street art that may look good in our final piece. For, example we found an alleyway that could be suitable for one scene we are planning to do in our final piece.
  • On the recce, we also had a chance to take some stills and see how they work out, including practicing different compositions of photographs that could be used for our printwork. This was also another chance to evaluate different locations.
  • Another advantage was that we could ultimately decide if a place like Brighton is actually suitable for the music video we want to film, as it being a public place caused a lot of problems.
What We Learnt

  • In the end we were able to decide on specific shots that will be suitable for our music video, and then also decide on locations.
  • Ultimately we were able to discount Brighton as a suitable location as the vast amounts of people walking around gives you less control over the scene and causes a lot more problems than you would expect.
