BJ: Reflection on Shoot 30th October

When, Where and with Who?

Our first shoot took place on Friday 30th October in Tunbridge Wells. Tom, Jack and myself all arrived to St John's Park at 10:30 am to set up ready for our actress to arrive. This is where we shot the toilet shots. At around 11 our actress, Martha, arrived and we began shooting. We the moved to Camden Road to begin shooting the running scenes at 12. After finding an additional location we could use we finally left Camden Road at around 1:30. We then proceeded to film the bar scene in the pantiles.

My Role

As I brought my camera along as a secondary camera, it was my role to be in control of the shots it was taking. Although, we did not use it much, we got some vital shots with it that will be used in our final piece. It was also partly my role to be in charge of the shot list and make sure everyone knew what was going on and what we were shooting. At one point I took control of the main camera, shooting the running scene down the road. For this, I used the steadicam which was very useful in getting smooth shots.

How Useful Was The Shot List?

The shot list proved vital in us knowing what we needed to shot, and also allowed us to elaborate on some of the shots and alter them according to what we felt or what the location made us do. Having an idea of what shots we needed was vital in us being able to slightly alter shots as we could alter them while still sticking somewhat to the original plan. Although we made changes, nothing too significant was changed.

What Are Your Best Shots?

Our best shots were the ones of our actress running down the road, as we shot them in 60fps and when slowed down look incredible. Another shot that worked well was the low angle shot of the pills scattered on the floor and the pull focus onto our actress as she leaves. The shots witht the fire also went well according to the plan.

Which Shots Were Problematic?

The fire shots, although working well, did prove a problem as the fire did not start as the cigarette hit the ashtray and needed to be lit a second time before starting. To get around the problem we have added a white flash between the shots to hide the cut we made.

Digipak Ideas

On the shoot we took a few stills of the ashtray and the pills that will be used in our final digipak piece.
