TW: Reflection on first day of filming

My roles
-Primarily, I directed the filming on Friday 30th October. This involved describing the actions we wanted to our actors, moving the filming process along by informing the crew what shot we were performing next, and taking a prominent role in organisation of the group - such as contacting the pub we wished to film at and actors being in the right location at the correct time.
-I also played a pivotal role in terms of filming, taking especial pride in the use of the steadycam, and composition of shots which utilise pull focus. Moreover, I played the role of Director Of Photography: overseeing the composition of cinematography and being the driving force behind shots to include on set.

-Some of the shots I am particularly proud of that I executed utilised a steadycam. An example of this is running alongside the actress as she runs past the cars. We also utilised the steadycam to perform a whip pan from the man's POV, as the smooth nature of the shot contributes towards the shot being from a definite POV.
-One problem I encountered on set was setting up the steadycam, as the weight of my DSLR means ensuring the right number of weights and correct distribution took a lot of adjustment. However, by noting down the effect which adding weights and changing the angle of weights had upon the steadiness of the camera meant we found the optimum setting.
-Other shots I performed simply involved mounting the DSLR on the tripod to perform pans, such as panning down to reveal the pill box being dropped, and panning up to the sky and down again in order to change location.
-I was keen on ensuring a lot of our shots utilised pull focus, as this adds extreme cinematic value. An example of this is pull focus from the pill box to the girl leaving the toilet, and utilising pull focus on the fire shots to ensure there was a shallow depth of field.

Strengths
-The main strength of the first day of filming was that we completed all the shots we wanted to, meaning that we don't have to re-shoot any of the scenes shot. The fact we are all happy with the shots we have proves how successful the day was.
-This success was further buffered by the fact we managed to film a scene we had not planned to film that day, meaning we have more time to perfect the most important scene (which will be filmed on the second day of filming.)
-Our inventiveness on set and precise planning is proven by the fact our shots heavily resemble our storyboard and animatic, but some shots are slightly different - proving the effectiveness of inventiveness on set.
-A final strength was the fact that the fire worked really well, it was easy to control and looked amazing.
-Use of equipment went really well, we used the jib, steadycam, tripod, and handicam effectively.

Weaknesses
-One weakness of the first day of filming was that we didn't film the bar scene in 60fps, which we had planned to do due to the effectiveness proficient slow-motion would add to the fire. However, this error means we will not make it on the second day of filming, where changing the resolution and frames per second is more important.
-A few of the camera shots performed  were slightly shaky, we will avoid this error being made next time by using the steadicam for handicam shots, transforming the shot into a close tracking shot and therefore adding intensity.
