JD: Reflection On Shoot

Where, When, Who
our primary shoot took place on the 30th of October, in Tunbridge Wells, myself and the team all arrived in St Johns Park at around 10:30, giving us some spare time prior to the arrival of our actress. thus meaning we were able to explore the location and set up, so we would be ready upon her arrival. At 12oclock we moved locations and started filming in Camden Road. This was the location of the first running scene. After discovering a new set, (the burnt down shed) we decided we would film there as the location of the final act. this location was in a side street of Camden Road. Finally, we transitioned to the Sussex Arms Pub in the Pantiles for the Bar scene)

My Role
On set it was my Job was to ensure every one knew what they were doing at all times. ensuring that the composition of the shots was known prior to shooting so that we worked as efficiently as possible. I was also responsible for shooting some scenes, namely the bathroom scenes with the slo-mo pill drop. at the pub my primary role was to film the dropping cigarette and ash tray fire. these shots involved me using the larger macro lens, which due to its weight could not be used on the stedicam. meaning the shots were taken handheld.

How Useful Was the Shot List?
We used the shot list during the filming religiously as it allowed us to know what we were doing at all times and gave us the basis to elaborate for each shot. The list of shots also allows us to see what shot comes next. Therefore allowing us to plan how the transitions from each shot worked.

What Are Your Best Shots?
The shot I believe worked best were the sequence in the bathroom where the pills are taken and then discarded. we used our cameras 60fps setting to allow us to slow down the dropping of the pot, meaning we captured the moment the pills hit the floor and scatter. thus giving the clip a dramatic feel when coincided with the track.

Any Problematic Shots?
The shots which required fire were the most problematic, not because of the cinematography, but because of the lack of fire. the cigarette hitting the lighter fluid did not ignite as predicted, meaning so imaginative editing was required with the footage we have.

Digi-Pack Ideas
A few stills were taken during the day, however after reviewing them we have decided on a different idea for the shots. so they were good from a purely idea point of view.
